Description

The 1st Greek Vermouth was created by Ioannis Voucher by the appointment of the philhellene King Otto back in 1850. It was crafted using wine from the Attica area infused with Greek herbs, rose petals & citrus fruits for a genuinely Greek flavour! Athenian’s kept Otto’s Vermouth in their cellars & enjoyed it fresh, cool & straight as an aperitif. In 1960, Athens takes the path of a cosmopolitan European city. The “enfant gâté” of the city mingle with the international “jet-set”, spending their nights until the first light of the sun. The drink of the time was, of course, Vermouth, enjoyed in a highball glass with ice & soda. Nowadays, Athens has become the favourite destination of the neo-bohemian creative crowd. Downtown boasts boutique hotels, new age bars, underground speakeasies, sophisticated drinking places & life on the streets never seems to stop. The creativity of new-age bartenders & the demand for authentic drinks with a strong past bring Athens Vermouth in the spotlight.

A few steps away from Otto’s house, on the upper floor of a neoclassical building under the buzz of one of the top 50 bars of the world, a passionate team revived the great times of Athens Vermouth & crafted the first bottle of “OTTO’s Athens Vermouth”! High-quality Greek wine infused with rose petals, wormwood, citrus fruits (also kumquat), olive leaves & herbs grown under the sun of Athens such as oregano & angelica, creating a uniquely Greek flavour. A slightly bitter Vermouth with fresh rose petal, citric & vanilla tones. In the mouth, it gives a balanced sweetness & a slightly bitter aftertaste combined with rose, lemon & orange freshness. On the nose, you get the rose petal, vanilla, oregano & fresh lemon notes. Its colour is crimson to light burgundy.
