This rare and magnetic duo is unlike any that has come before it. Begin is a taste of Mortlach at birth: the first drops of ‘new make’ that only a few have tasted before. The barley spirit’s robust and bold character offers compelling layers of sweetness and umami, with notes of pepper and pear, and a spicy finish. Beyond is Mortlach’s velvet fortitude. A complex, rich and meaty whisky awakened by a mixture of American and European Oak, and PX/Oloroso-seasoned European Oak casks. Beyond offers an emboldened Mortlach, a powerful beast that has been tamed.

700ml Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 200ml Barley Spirit

Begin

Nose – Oily, with sweet hints of malty cereal that becomes spirituous and meatier.
Body – A rich amber, like polished brass.
Palate – Initially lightly sweet and spicy, the slightly sour red cherry note becomes meatier.
Finish – Long, deep and peppery with lingering acetone and a cereal aftertaste.

Beyond

Nose – Mellow, dry and savoury. The familiar meaty note becomes hints of dry sage, vanilla ice cream and raspberry.
Body – A rich amber, like polished brass.
Palate –  Sweet with hints of spun honey to start. Add a drop of water for a spicier conclusion with a hint of ginger.
Finish – A lingering spiciness and a cool aftertaste.
