Masataka Taketsuru is the founder of Nikka Whisky Distilling. In 1918 this aspiring Japanese whisky distiller travelled to Scotland to learn organic chemistry and the malt whisky production process. 2 years later he returned to Japan after marrying Glasgow lass, Jessie Roberta “Rita” Cowan, and established Nikka Whisky Distilling in 1934 after working with Kotobukiya for several years. Best served neat, Nikka Black Clear Blend Whisky is a 40% ABV Japanese Blended Whisky that draws from the Miyagikyo and Yoichi distilleries to create a vintage blend that is perfect for first time explorers of Japanese whisky.
